Traditional Counseling
Healing happens in relationship. Something profound takes place when two people connect in an authentic way. You are free to BE. Your self-awareness grows exponentially and you begin to see how you connect with all other relationships in life. You begin to discover who you are, who you are not and how you would like to genuinely relate with others. It takes time to build trust, so our first few sessions together will be centered on getting to know each other and creating a strong therapeutic relationship.
My practice is designed for you as a whole person. We will attend to your thoughts, emotions, physical symptoms, past or current traumas, relationships, dreams, intuition and spirituality. We will get to know you deeply, listening for your true voice as well as what your soul craves. We will have deep conversations, moments of silence, movement, creativity and laughter. My goal is that you will grow to know and love yourself in a way that sets you free, supports you in embodying your truth and transforms your life.
Traditional counseling and equine assisted psychotherapy work well together. Working with horses offers you a unique experience to quickly get in touch with what is held deeply within you and talk therapy gives you time to explore and discover what arises with the horses. On the other hand, if you prefer talk therapy and are at an impasse, a session or two with the horses will illuminate you on what to work through in the office. We will work together to find the right balance based on your needs.
To get the most out of counseling, I invite you to create time to process our work through journaling, recording your dreams, talking with trusted loved ones, reading books, watching movies and videos, and listening to songs . You can reference some resources here. Incorporating movement, play and mindfulness can also help deepen therapy and increase your well-being.
Most clients find that weekly appointments help with continuity and growth, although some clients come bi-weekly, depending on the level of support they need. We will work together to create a pace that makes sense for you.
